Cambridge, Massachusetts —Construction of two condominium buildings and a five-acre park began on March 21, in East Cambridge, Massachusetts. The buildings and park are part of the 45-acre Northpoint development, which will take 15 years and more than $2bn to complete, according to the Boston Globe. The buildings, designated as “Building S” and “Building T” by the planners of the project, Spaulding & Slye Colliers, have been designed by local architectural firm Childs Bertman Tseckares and Architects Alliance from Toronto. Buildings S and T are the first of an eventual 20 buildings planned at the site.

The development will fill what used to be a railroad yard for the Guilford Rail System, a subsidiary of Guilford Transportation Industries. According to Hoovers.com, Guilford is controlled by Timothy Mellon, heir to the Mellon banking fortune. Guilford Rail Systems has its headquarters in North Billerica and owns 1600 miles of railroad throughout New England. The tracks in the Northpoint plot have been removed, though Boston subway’s Lechmere station remains within walking distance of the site, along with parts of Boston and Cambridge. The site is bordered by Route 93 on its eastern side, Monsignor O’Brien Highway to the west, and the Gilmore Bridge to the south.

The landscape architecture of the park is provided by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, a landscape architecture firm on Concord Avenue in Cambridge. The firm’s principal teaches in Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. MVVA is also completing the landscape for Harvard’s Northwest Science Building.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/OH-WY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Bucharest to be ‘rebranded’ for 800 million euro

Bucharest, Romania — The city centre of Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is set to get a major facelift due to a real estate project called Esplanada (The Esplanade), which will be constructed by TriGranit Development Corporation. The total investment in the project will be greater than 800 million euro and aims to build a modern commercial pedestrian area in downtown Bucharest, with several shopping malls, office buildings, hotels and dwellings. It will be the largest real estate program in Romania since the fall of Communism in 1989.

Bucharest is currently looking at possibilities to improve its appearance and rebrand itself as a lively, creative and vibrant city. Many initiatives have sprung up to improve the city, including the organisation of CowParade later this year. Additionally, the old town centre will be restored. Due to Romania’s current economic boom, several other major construction projects are taking place.

Bucharest City Hall has blocked traffic in the city center due both to the old town restoration and to the Esplanada project.

What Is Breast Augmentation?}

What is Breast Augmentation?

by

Heather ColmanBreast augmentation, also known as breast implant surgery is a popular cosmetic surgery to enlarge the size of a woman’s breasts or to reconstruct the breast to correct genetic deformities or after a mastectomy. This procedure is also performed during male-to-female sex changes.

How popular is breast augmentation? According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the third most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States. In 2005, 291,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed.

There are four types of implants used in breast augmentation.

1. Saline implants, which have a silicone rubber shell filled with sterile saline liquid. These implants are currently the only type available outside of clinical trials in the United States, but future regulation may make more filler types available.

2. Silicone gel implants, which have a silicone shell filled with a viscous silicone gel.

3. String Implants, which used proypropylene (PPP), were eliminated years ago by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to the complications brought about by continuous growth after implantation.

Despite the apparent danger and frequent complications, this type of breast implant was popular among adult entertainers.

4. Tissue engineered implants are a new form currently in development. Cells taken from tissue artificially grown from human stem cells are combined with a scaffold material to produce a Tissue Engineered Breast Implant.

The advantage of this breast augmentation method is that there is no risk of leakage or rupture, and the size can remain stable for the lifetime of the patient, a contrast from the silicone or saline filled implants which typically reduce by approximately 40%.

Regardless of the type of breast augmentation procedure chosen, it is likely that women with implants will need to have one or more additional surgeries (reoperations) over the course of their lives. The most common reasons for reoperations include cosmetic concerns, capsular contracture, and rupture.

Reoperation rates are less frequent in breast reconstruction cases. The major implant manufacturers, Mentor and Inamed, both reported that almost half their reconstruction patients underwent additional surgeries within three years to fix implant problems, whether their implants were silicone or saline.

Finding The Right Medigap Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plan}

June 6, 2021 · Insurance · (No comments)

Submitted by: Ingvar Grimsmo

How to Find the Perfect Medigap Insurance Plan

Medigap, as the name implies, is a supplemental medical insurance plan provided by private insurance providers to fill the gap of the original Medicare Plan Service. In as much as the government is trying its best to provide all the basic needs of its citizens, particularly that of the elders, there are still certain situations wherein their needs are more than what the government can afford. The best they can do is to mandate these insurance providers to offer certain insurance policies to elders so they can still cope-up with their medical needs.

The Quest for the Perfect Medigap Insurance Plan

Medicare was never designed to pay ALL of your medical bills. You can take advantage of special Medicare supplement plans that give you solid protection against high medical bills. While protecting your freedom to choose your MD.

In searching for the perfect Medigap policy, you should do a bit of calculation and estimation. It is something that you do out of fancy. Give it utmost importance by listing down the potential medical fees you may encounter for the entire year. There are 12 standardized Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plans offered by insurance providers and having the estimated cost of your medical expense by your side will make your task easier. You can easily compare the unique differences of these benefits and choose the most appropriate package for you.

Medigap is additional health insurance that you buy from a private insurance company to pay health care costs not covered by basic Medicare, such as co-payments, deductibles, and health care if you travel outside the US. Medigap insurance policies do not cover long term care – such as stays in a nursing facility, dental care, vision care, hearing aids, eyeglasses, or private-duty nursing. Most medigap plans do not cover prescription drugs.

Those who have existing insurance plans should re-evaluate the contents of these policy so you will not end up purchasing the same services with these Medigap policies. You should also remember that unlike other insurance plans, the Medigap Insurance Plans will not extend its coverage to your spouse. This is an individual medical insurance plan, so do your calculation based on your needs alone. Moreover, try to estimate the amount of premium you may need to pay and see if it will fit your monthly budget. If it does not then you may need to be satisfied with a different type of insurance plan.

Medicare supplement insurance covers the gap between what Medicare pays on medical bills and what you have to pay for premium deductibles, coinsurance and co-payments.

Private Medicare supplement insurance policies pay only for services that the U.S. Medicare system indicates medically necessary – and cash payments are generally based on the Medicare approved expense. Some insurance plans offer financial benefits that Medicare do not offer. Such as emergency care abroad.

After securing this set of information, you may find it helpful to inquire with your existing insurance company. If you have worked several years with this company then you will find it a whole easier to place your trust and confidence in them. You may also be given a little leeway with the documents that needs to be submitted because you already have a file on their end.

Court rules against Texas officials in FLDS case

Court rules against Texas officials in FLDS case
June 2, 2021 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Saturday, May 24, 2008

An appeals court in Texas has ruled that Texas Child Protective Services should not have taken the children from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) compound as they were unable to prove that the children in the compound were at risk of immediate physical harm.

401 allegedly abused children were taken into state custody last month after officials received a call from a distressed 16-year-old girl. The children were found in a 1700-acre compound belonging to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is now believed that the original phone call was actually a hoax.

Police were monitoring the compound ever since it was bought by the group one year ago. According to Texas law there must have been “a danger to the physical health or safety of the child which was caused by an act or failure to act of the person entitled to possession and for the child to remain in the home is contrary to the welfare of the child”.

In addition to the above there must also be “the urgent need for protection required the immediate removal of the child and reasonable efforts, consistent with the circumstances and providing for the safety of the child, were made to eliminate or prevent the child’s removal”

Finally, for state custody to be allowed there must also have been “reasonable efforts have been made to enable the child to return home”. A lower court was given 10 days to make a decision on whether the above requirements are met. Although originally the mothers were allowed to stay with the children, they are not required to be separate unless the parents are aged under eighteen or the children are very young. The FLDS said in an open letter to the Governor of Texas that a “critical crisis” was unfolding due to these recent incidents.

The Texas courts system released documents on its website regarding the recent decision. It said that: “the only danger to the male children or the female children who had not reached puberty identified by the Department was the Department’s assertion that the pervasive belief system of the FLDS community groomed the males to be perpetrators of sexual abuse later in life and taught the girls to submit to sexual abuse after reaching puberty.”

The document also noted that: “There was no evidence that the male children, or the female children who had not reached puberty, were victims of sexual or other physical abuse or in danger of being victims of sexual or other physical abuse.” The website reported that: “While there was evidence that twenty females had become pregnant between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, there was no evidence regarding the marital status of these girls when they became pregnant or the circumstances under which they became pregnant other than the general allegation that the girls were living in an FLDS community with a belief system that condoned underage marriage and sex.”

The report claimed there were five possible cases of abuse, “There was no evidence that any of the female children other than the five identified as having become pregnant between the ages of fifteen and seventeen were victims or potential victims of sexual or other physical abuse”.

In addition to Texas, the group has compounds in Hildale, Mancos and many other locations. The church has around 10,000 members in total, and was founded in the 1930s. The church split from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints due to the fact that it abandoned polygamy.

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is led by Warren Jeffs – jailed last year for the rape and forced marriage of a 14 year old girl – is a breakaway branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which abandoned the practice of polygamy in 1890.
