The king of pop and his music need no introduction. It is his tracks that make us smile or emotional even today when we hear them, the soul in his music, the originality of his songs and the uniqueness of his dance steps are here to remain forever. Michael Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
With 15, Grammy awards, 12 World Music Awards, 26 American Music Awards, and 13 Guinness World Records”including one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time” and the sale of over 750 million units worldwide,Michael Jacksonhas proved that he was one of a kind star and human being. MJ has also won several awards for his charitableendeavours and has been honoured by two US Presidents. Lets talk about the journey of Michael Jackson music awards from the year 1970 to 2010.
Journey from NAACP image awards to American music award (1970 1980)
The success of the journey started from the year 1970 when Jackson 5 got the best singing group of the year and from then on there was no looking back. Michael Jackson videos and Michael Jackson albums have got various awards from 1970 to 1980 including Grammy Awards for Best Pop Song, “ABC” in 1971, Golden Globe Awards for “Ben” Billboard Awards for Top Singles Artist of the Year and Top Singles Male of the Year in 1972, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grammy Awards for Best R&B Vocal Male, “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and American Music Awards in the year 1980.
From British Phonographic Industry Awards to American Cinema Awards (1981- 1990)
Michael Jackson albums received international recognition during the years 1981 -1990, winning awards such as British Phonographic Industry Awards for “Off The Wall” Album in 1981 along with various awards such as American Music Awards for Favourite Male Vocalist – Soul/ R&B, and NAACP Image Awards to Jackson 5 for Best Singing Group.
The year 1983 bought various international awards and recognition with it such as Spain: Most Important Foreign Album, United Kingdom: Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, Australia: Album of the Year, Brazil: International Artist of the Year, Greece: Record of the Year, Holland: Album of the Year, Italy: Artist of the Year and Japan: Artist of the Year.
The journey of winning continued in 1984, 85 and so on with the awards such as Rolling stone magazine award, Emmy award, Most Popular Artist in the History of Show Business by Vanity Fair Magazine etc. and Jackson won Presidential Special Recognition as an Artist of the Decade (presented by American President George Bush) in the year 1990.
From MTV Awards to World Music Awards (1991- 2000)
In the year 1991, Michael Jackson got The Video Vanguard Award from MTV and the Award is renamed as The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. This decade bought lots of variety and recognition for Michael Jackson albumssuch as Rockbjrnen Award, Operation One to One Award: Point Of Light Ambassador (presented by American President George Bush), lifetime achievement award and many more in 1992.
Soul Train Music Awards, Bravo Magazine: Gold Otto Award, Living legend of the year in 1993. Jackson got Bollywood Award (Indian Film Industry) for Outstanding Humanitarian for the first time in 1999 and the year 2000 bought him World Music Awards for Best Selling Pop Male Artist of the Millennium.
From Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame to Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award(2001-2010)
Michael Jackson got Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame award in the year 2001 and the journey continued withvarious awardssuch as American Music Awards, NRJ Awards, 1st Magical Life Award and 30th Anniversary Award in New York in the year 2002, in 2009 Jackson received American Music Awards: Artist of the Century Award and the year 2010 bought Lifetime Achievement Grammy Awardfor Michael Jackson.
