Bariatric surgery, or weight loss surgery is a procedure designed to help people who are very overweight to shed pounds. Usually, bariatric surgery is reserved for those who are dangerously overweight but just can’t seem to drop the extra pounds through conventional means. Gastric bypass surgery and gastric banding are two types of surgery that are commonly used for losing weight. With each procedure, your stomach is reduced in size, so you are only able to take in a fraction of the calories that you normally would. The result is steady and sometimes rapid weight loss, as your body gets back to its normal size and shape.

The amount of weight that you will lose in pounds from bariatric surgery will vary depending on how much you weight at the beginning. Weight loss of a hundred pounds or more isn’t uncommon, as anyone having the surgery is quite overweight to start. On average, people who have gastric bypass surgery will lose up to 61 percent of their excess weight. For people who have gastric banding, they can expect to lose about 47 percent of their excess weight, on average.

Even though gastric bypass bariatric surgery typically results in greater weight loss, the results of the procedure are permanent. With gastric banding, the band can always be adjusted later on if necessary. Once the effects of the surgery even out, you can incorporate exercise into your routine and maintain a healthy diet to drop even more weight if it’s required. Bariatric surgery works wonderfully to lose a bunch of weight and help get people out of the danger zone, but it isn’t magic. You still have to do your part to keep it up and make it all possible.

Aside from just weight loss, bariatric surgery is also an effective way to help any weight-related health problems you may be experiencing. Serious issues such as obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, acid reflux, high blood pressure and degenerative joint disease can all be helped with successful bariatric surgery. As the weight continues to melt off the body, you will notice many health conditions get easier and easier to deal with, and sometimes they may even disappear altogether.

Bariatric surgery can help you lose an awful lot of weight, correct health issues and basically give you your life back. If you are in a situation where you’re morbidly obese, you know that it’s a lot more than simply having some trouble when you try to tie up your shoes. It can seem almost impossible to find a comfortable position to lie or sit, and you probably wake countless times every night, struggling for air. That’s to say nothing of the social ramifications many obese people are forced to deal with. If you are overweight and it’s affecting your health and you just can’t seem to lose the weight yourself, ask your doctor if bariatric surgery might be an option. It never hurts to ask.

Nintendo unveils controller for Revolution console
August 22, 2021 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Saturday, September 17, 2005

At Thursday’s keynote presentation of the Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unveiled the controller design for the company’s new Nintendo Revolution console. Resembling a television remote, the controller uses two sensors placed near the user’s television to triangulate its position in three-dimensional space. This will allow players to control actions and movements in video games by moving the device through the air.

The remote control design is said to target new players who are unfamiliar with traditional video game controllers.

A supplementary peripheral has also been shown, consisting of a separate plastic grip that is designed to be held in the player’s second hand. It provides an analog stick and two trigger buttons, and connects to the bottom of the main controller with a simple cord. Additionally, Nintendo has suggested that the main controller will be able to slide inside a “shell” that will allow it to function like a conventional video game controller.

The Revolution is expected to be released next year.

Controversial medical center demolished in Buffalo, New York

A medical center, once the site of intense controversy over abortion in the 1990s, which has been vacant for nearly 10 years, was imploded in Buffalo, New York at 6:00 a.m. [eastern time] today.

Several streets in about a 2 block radius were shut down until the implosion occurred and the dust settled. At least 200 people watched in nearby parking lots and on rooftops of buildings to get a good look at the implosion.

The ground and the walls of buildings shook as the dynamite detonated and a brief shock wave could be felt as far as 1 1/2 blocks away. Witnesses even reported small pieces of bricks and concrete falling out of some buildings, but no one was injured.

The building, owned by Kaleida Health, once housed several medical offices, including an abortion clinic. Hundreds of people protested about the abortions outside the center during the Spring of Life Movement in 1992, but other medical procedures and treatments were also part of the center’s services. It was built in 1965 and was 14 floors tall.

Kaleida Health had the building imploded so that the current Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus can be expanded. Several other major medical facilities are also in the same area including Roswell Cancer Institute and Buffalo General Hospital.

“This implosion of 50 High Street will continue the explosion of growth on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. This event will ensure future opportunity for investment, development and growth,” said the CEO and President of Kaleida Health in a statement on Thursday.

At least seven mountaineers die while climbing K2
August 19, 2021 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Sunday, August 3, 2008

At least seven mountaineers have died while climbing K2, the second highest mountain in the world. The accident was reportedly caused by a rock slide or an avalanche that severed all the ropes used for ascent and descent.

Initial reports state that seventeen climbers ascended the mountain in two groups, with both reaching the summit successfully. The reports also state that after the avalanche, some climbers attempted to return without ropes.

The summit was covered in clouds late yesterday afternoon and the conditions in the mountain continued to deteriorate. Some of the latest reports indicate that eight climbers were stuck at the summit, unable to descend. Four of these climbers are Norwegian nationals. The conditions at the summit during night are extreme and offer very limited chances for survival for people unable to descend.

In an unrelated incident, a Serbian climber and his sherpa fell down during the initial descent. This incident was, however, unrelated to the other deaths caused by the avalanche.

Picturesque Scenery And Protected Wilderness

One reason people . This makes it perfect to spend your days out on a beach or visiting the top attractions. Yet, residents also spend time in Tampa Bay enjoying the scenery and exploring protected wildlife and lands. In fact, some volunteer their time and/or money to ensure Tampa Bay retains some of its natural beauty and scenic characteristics.

Landscaped Perfections

Natural beauty can be cultivated. This is what occurs at few popular sites in Tampa Bay. The University of South Florida is home to the USF Botanical Gardens. It has 10 acres of landscape displays and collections of orchids, tropical and carnivorous plants, palms and begonias. They coexist with birds, butterflies and other flying beings. Stop in at the plant shop and bookstore to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region.

This same arrangement, but in a more cultivated and somewhat less orthodox or scholarly setting is what happens at Busch Gardens. This is an attempt to recreate colonial Africa complete with plant and animal life. While most people come for the animals and the rides, it is possible to admire the landscaping of the theme park.

If you want to enjoy landscaping, drive through any of the towns and cities in Tampa Bay Metropolitan region. Perhaps, you can visit Sarasota and the lovely orchids and bromeliads of the specimens, you can meander along a well trod path past ancient banyans, bamboo and mangrove forests

Wild and Beautiful

If you want to see natural beauty, it is often best to head off to the local state parks. While Tampa Bay cannot boast the ferocity and eerie beauty of the Everglades, it does have its own glorious wild spots. The banks of the Hillsborough River are home to some unique wildlife. Explore the beauties of Hillsborough River State Park by kayak or canoe.

Other wildlife and natural beauty is part of the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Park in Hillsborough County. The intent is to keep activity by humans down to a bare minimum within the park. The protected area includes various ecological and coastal environmentally sensitive communities including coastal hammocks, freshwater marshes, mangrove forests, pine flatwoods and salt marshes.

Whatever you are looking for, consider what each community has to offer naturally and environmentally before pursuing your dream of owning real estate in Tampa Bay, Florida. Enjoy the brash attractions of Busch Gardens, but remember the sensitive beauty and nature of the mangroves, bird sanctuaries and marshes.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Timothy Dalton to voice a character in Toy Story 3

Disney president John Lasseter has announced that British actor Timothy Dalton will be voicing a character in Toy Story 3.

Dalton, who previously starred as James Bond in Licence to Kill and The Living Daylights, will star as a thespian hedgehog called Mr. Pricklypants in Toy Story 3, a film which is due for release in June 2010. Mr. Pricklypants is described as “a hedgehog toy with thespian tendencies”.

John Lasseter, Disney/Pixar Chief Creative Officer, made the announcement at a Disney Animation Showcase in London, England on Thursday. At the same event it was announced that Mandy Moore would star in a cartoon based on the fairytale Rapunzel and that a James Bond-style character will appear in upcoming Disney/Pixar film Cars 2. In August 2009, it was also announced that Michael Keaton — from the movie Cars — would voice Ken, the boyfriend to Barbie in the film.

John Lasseter originally announced the plans for the third film in the franchise in January 2008 and said that people would be “blown away” by it. He proclaimed: “It [Toy Story 3] is shaping up to be another great adventure for Buzz, Woody and the gang from Andy’s room.”

Emaar Properties claims Burj Dubai as world’s tallest building

Emaar Properties claims Burj Dubai as world’s tallest building
August 15, 2021 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Sunday, July 22, 2007

United Arab Emirates (UAE) developer Emaar Properties has claimed that their Burj Dubai commercial and residential tower, currently under construction, has become the world’s tallest building, reaching a height of 512.1 metres (or 1,680 feet) and 141 storeys.

The current official record holder, Taipei 101 of Taiwan, has a height of 508 metres and 101 storeys, and will retain the “tallest building” title for some time to come. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat sets the criteria for achieving height records for buildings, and will not evaluate the Burj Dubai until construction is complete in late 2008. Although final height details have been kept secret by the developer, the Burj Dubai is expected to reach nearly 700 metres in height, with approximately 160 storeys.

The current record holder for the world’s tallest free-standing structure is the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. It has a height of 553 metres. The Burj Dubai, therefore, would claim both records when it is completed.

Once the Burj Dubai is completed, it will have required 330,000 cubic metres of concrete, 39,000 tonnes of steel and 142,000 square metres of glass, according to Emaar Properties. The building will have 56 lifts (elevators) that can move at a rate of speed of 1.75 to 10 metres per second.

Dubai is undergoing a construction boom currently with the Burj Dubai as the planned centrepiece of a $US20 billion project, which will eventually realize some 30,000 apartments and boast the world’s largest shopping mall.

There have been criticisms of the working conditions for construction workers in the UAE. A majority of the estimated 500,000 construction workers in the UAE are foreign workers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In a 2006 report on the UAE’s treatment of migrant workers, entitled Building Towers, Cheating Workers, Human Rights Watch documented abuses in UAE such as, “extremely low wages, several years of indebtedness to recruitment agencies for fees that UAE law says only employers should pay, the withholding of employees’ passports, and hazardous working conditions that result in apparently high rates of death and injury.”

In October of last year, Human Rights Watch delivered specific recommendations to the UAE government for improvement of working conditions. The UAE government acted swiftly on the report and put in place several improvements, which were applauded by Human Rights Watch.

However, the salaries of migrant construction workers remain in the range from $106 to $250 per month, while the national average wage is over $2,000 per month. Trade unions remain illegal in the UAE.

Top 10 Wedding Do’s And Don’ts

August 15, 2021 · Financial Planning · (No comments)

By Yasmin Shikina

1. Do send out save the date cards as soon as you can, preferably 6 months prior, so that your guests have enough planning time.

2. Do make it a point of finding out all the legal requirements for a marriage license at your choice destination. It would be awful to get there and find out that there is a waiting period to get married.

3. Do make a point of setting aside some time to spend with your guest. Arrange a special dinner or brunch explicitly for these guests. This can be done before or after the wedding. They have traveled a long distance to share in your special day.

4. Dont try and go at it alone. Planning a wedding can be a daunting task. Hire a wedding coordinator if at all possible. They have the experience and the connections to get the job done just the way you want it. They can make your life easier and less stressful.

5. Dont forget special gifts for your guest such as baskets in their rooms filled with flip flops, sun tan lotion, visors, etc. It keeps with the theme and adds a special touch. Remember to include a note of thanks in the baskets. Your guest will feel very special.

6. Do pick a wedding dress with the climate and location in mind. Also remember that the dress will need to travel with you so choose carefully.

7. Do preview your hair and makeup prior to the special day. Be sure to bring a picture of the dress, a certain hairstyle and makeup, so that the stylist has an idea of the look you want to achieve. There is no time for surprises on your wedding day.

8. Dont limit yourself to only summer months to plan your island /beach wedding. Remember, these destinations have beautiful weather all year round.

9. Dont worry about having to stay with a beach or island theme. You can definitely build on the island surroundings and create your own.

10. Dont stress out. If you dont hire a wedding planner make sure you put someone in charge to handle details and issues as they arise. Your best man can be in charge of tipping and making last minute payments. Put the payments in individual envelopes labeled with the service, i.e. photographer, bartender.

Once the day arrives, let go and enjoy. All the hard work is done. Unwind and have fun. That is what its all about.

Death toll of Bahrain tourist boat capsizing rises to 57

Death toll of Bahrain tourist boat capsizing rises to 57
August 15, 2021 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Saturday, April 1, 2006At least 57 people are now known to have died when a boat designed similar to a traditional dhow capsized one mile of the coast of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Seventeen were Indian and a further 13 of the dead are British; people of another six nationalities are also known to have died. The passengers were mostly foreigners from the Nass-Murray and Roberts construction company, and were enjoying an evening dinner cruise in celebration of their completion of part of the Bahrain World Trade Centre towers. Most who died were dining on the lower deck, and were trapped below.

Over 130 people were onboard the boat at the time, although some say the boat was only licensed to carry 120. Others say the limit was 150. Eyewitnesses say the boat was overloaded. The boat capsized in calm seas soon after it left, trapping many below. Helicopters from the US Navy searched for 13 missing persons until Friday morning, when the search was called off. The dhow had been modified to have an extra, higher deck making the vessel less stable. The exact cause is unknown – suggestions from eyewitnesses include the boat suddenly turning left, being hit by a wave, and many of the passengers moving to one side of the boat together. The Bahrain Interior Ministry is to investigate the accident and establish if the boat was seaworthy.
