Homebush Bay, New South Wales —Last night, the Australia men’s national wheelchair basketball team beat Japan 80–49 in their final game of pool play at the Rollers & Gliders World Challenge taking place at at the Sport Centre at the Sydney Olympic Park and are through to the first place match.

The contrast between the two teams was seen in their wheels: almost every Australian player had a four wheeled chair that gave them increased stability while every single Japanese player had three wheels, which gave them great maneuverability. Japan played the aggressor throughout the match, with several players aggressively blocking with wheelchair on wheelchair contact. Both sides were loud, chanting defense, defense, defense when their side was on that side of the court.

The first quarter was closely fought, with Japan racking up 5 by 5:54 left in the first. They successfully took a lead of 17–16 by the end of the first quarter. They were unable to hold the lead, with Australia holding a 40–24 lead at the end of the first half. Australia’s lead at the end of the third was 61–34. While Japan increased their total points in the fourth quarter, they failed to defend against Australia who continued to answer back basket for basket for the game to end 80–49.

Australia plays in the first place match later today. Their London Paralympic campaign starts on August 30 against South Africa.

Alaska senator Ted Stevens indicted in corruption scandal

United States Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has been indicted by federal grand jury on seven criminal counts for making false statements in his Senate financial disclosure forms. The longest-serving Republican in the Senate, Stevens is the highest-profile politician ensnared in the corruption scandal surrounding VECO Corporation and its executives’ attempts to influence politics.

VECO, a subsidiary of CH2M Hill as of September 2007, is an oil pipeline and services company. It is alleged to have funded renovations to the Stevens home in Girdwood, Alaska in 2000. The renovations include a new garage and first floor, a two story wrap-around deck, as well as new wiring and plumbing. In 2007, VECO chief executive Bill Allen pleaded guilty to charges of extortion, bribery, and conspiracy.

The 28-page indictment alleges that Stevens “knowingly and willfully engaged in a scheme to conceal” gifts from VECO, which totaled “hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of things of value.”

A press release was issued by Stevens’ office in response to the allegations: “I am innocent of these charges and intend to prove that.” And Stevens himself commented, “I have never knowingly submitted a false disclosure form required by law as a U.S. senator.” Senator Daniel Inouye, a close friend of Stevens, commented: “As far as he’s concerned, he’s not guilty. And I believe him.”

Stevens was reportedly caught unawares on Tuesday when the indictment charge was filed. “Apparently, the media knew about it before he did,” Inouye stated, adding that he had just talked to Stevens. Ted Stevens was in a meeting with other Republicans when he found out about the charge.

Stevens is the longest-serving Republican senator in history and is up for reelection this November. Calls to his office in Washington for comment were redirected to a voicemail indicating that his “office is closed.”

The United States Department of Justice says it has already obtained seven convictions in the case: Peter Kott, a former Speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives; Thomas T. Anderson, a former state representative; Victor H. Kohring, another representative; James A. Clark, chief of staff to the former governor of Alaska; William Bobrick, a lobbyist; Bill Allen, VECO chief executive; and Richard L. Smith, VECO vice president of government relations.

With the price of tobacco products continuing to rise, more and more individuals are looking for alternative measures that will help them quit or save money. Many vendors are aware of these concerns and, as a result, have begun to stock products such as roll your own cigarettes and e-cigarettes to meet your needs.

Roll Your Own Cigarettes

Tired of having to pay for a pack a day? Well truth be told, many tobacco users are. While you can’t change the prices regulated by the government, you can do something that will help you save a few bucks along the way. Roll your own cigarette options allow for consumers to purchase an apparatus, cigarette wraps, and Tobacco, and create their own packs for a fraction of the cost of buying them in stores.

Options

There are three options that can be considered when rolling your own cigarettes, including a manual injector, electric table injector, or the option to join a club and roll your own cigarettes on site. Each of these has their own benefits. The manual injector option allows you to manually roll your own cigarettes. It takes about an hour and a half to complete a carton’s worth. This is the more economical choice. The electric injector option is a bit faster than the manual option. Using a similar apparatus, you can likely roll a carton of cigarettes in about a half hour. For faster results, however, going to the nearest location and rolling your cigarettes on the spot is the best option.

E-Cigs

For those who’d rather kick the habit completely, e-cigs are a great solution. These electronic cigarettes allow you to kick your addiction to nicotine by slowly reducing your exposure to it. They are very beneficial, and have been proven to be safe for smokers looking to quit, as well as those who might experience secondhand smoke.

So if you’re looking to save money on tobacco in Melbourne FL area, then visiting a local shop is the best way to go about it. You can find roll your own machines, including the manual or electronic options, as well as electronic cigarettes for those looking to kick the habit altogether. Be sure to only buy from a quality vendor that promises fresh products daily.

Drought conditions hit much of US again in 2012

Monday, July 9, 2012

Over half of the contiguous United States is experiencing drought conditions, according to a report released Thursday by the National Weather Service. The report, addressing the period through this coming September, predicted many states will see these conditions persist, or worsen.

Further government reports indicate that high temperatures have played a role in the drought. Additionally, food supplies are being negatively impacted. 22 percent of the corn and soybean crop in key states is reported in “poor or very poor condition”; other crops have also been reduced in the wake of the conditions.

Only days ago, over one million residences in the greater Washington D.C. area were without air-conditioning following a rash of storms and high winds. Reports indicate that temperatures reached at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit (about 38C) during that period. Overall, 18 deaths were attributed to those conditions which extended to several states. Two Tennessee brothers, ages 3 and 5 died after playing outside, according to one report. When asked about weather conditions, a Texas woman told Wikinews, “This heat has been dreadful. I can hardly stand to be outside for more than 10 minutes.”

The National Weather Service’s report noted that, in the southeastern US, some weather improvements are expected across certain portions of Georgia and South Carolina. An Arkansas woman told Wikinews, “…it’s horrible. We’re not used to these kinds of temperatures. It’s so miserable outside right now. It doesn’t normally get this hot here…this is unbelievable.” Sources are referring to this drought as the worst since 1988.

Buffalo, New York —Savarino Construction Services Corp. has proposed a $7 million hotel project at the Forest and Elmwood Avenue intersection, according to The Buffalo News. The proposal calls for a 5-story, 45,000 square-foot 80-room hotel with underground parking for at least 50 vehicles, and 4,500 square-feet of retail space on the lower level.

Hans Mobius, the owner of the five properties to be purchased in the plan (1109 to 1121 Elmwood), reportedly signed a contract with Savarino to assemble the development.

“We saw a huge opportunity to bring something to the Elmwood Village that will make sense and bring a service that’s currently not available,” said Eva Hassett, vice president of Savarino. “Elmwood is such a wonderful place to eat, shop, walk and spend time. We believe this project will add to that vibrant environment.”

Some business owners in the area see it differently. Wikinews interviewed 2 of the 4 owners whose business’s would be demolished if the development goes through.

Nancy Pollina, of Don Apparel at 1119 Elmwood, who found out about the development only yesterday, said she is “utterly” against the proposal. Her apparel shop has stood at the same location for nearly 14 years. She has volunteered in the community, and helped create several gardens around bus shelters in the city, and served on Forever Elmwood Board for six years as head of Beautification. Patty Morris co-owns Don Apparel with Pollina.

“To say this is a good looking project, I want to say the emperor has no clothes. This [project] does not take into consideration the needs of the college students. I have been told by college students, these shops here, are the reason they leave the campus,” said Mrs. Pollina.

Buffalo State College is 500-feet from the intersection.

Michael Faust, the owner of Mondo Video said, “Well, I do not really want to get kicked out of here. The landlord was very open, and the deal he made with me when I moved in here was ‘the rent is cheap and I [the landlord] will not fix anything and that will not change.'” Faust said he first learned of the development plan, “about 48 hours ago. I found out on Tuesday when the Buffalo News called and asked for my opinion on this.” Faust has not said if he will make plans to relocate. “We have to see if this [house] is going to get knocked down first,” said Faust.

An “informational” meeting, where citizens can voice opinions and learn about the proposal, will be held on Tuesday February 21, 2006 at 5:00pm (eastern), at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center Gallery at Buffalo State College, Rockwell Hall.

Executive director of Forever Elmwood Corporation, Justin P. Azzarella would not comment on whether or not the organization supports the development, saying, “you will just have to come to the meeting.”

Forever Elmwood Corp. is designed to preserve and protect the unique and historic nature of Elmwood Avenue and its surrounding neighborhoods and encourage neighborhood commercial revitalization. The organization was founded in 1994.

Nearly two years ago, the Forever Elmwood Corp. assisted in the blocking of the demolition of the Edward Atwater house at 1089 Elmwood next to Pano’s Restaurant which is at 1081 Elmwood. Owner Pano Georgiadis wanted to expand his restaurant onto the property where the house now stands, but the Common Council denied his permit to demolish saying the house is a historical landmark and needs to be protected. Georgiadis, who has a bleeding ulcer, said that all the court cases landed him in the hospital. “I got a bleeding ulcer, and since then, I don’t care about this house anymore, or this city. I just go to work every day. I think [preservationists] are parasites,” said Georgiadis.

Georgiadis will not be attending Tuesday’s meeting saying, “I will be out of town.”

In 1995 Hans Mobius proposed a plan to develop a Walgreens, that was to be placed in the same location, but residents and business owners shot down the proposal. Walgreens eventually withdrew its request for a variance after pressure from the community.

Outsourcing It Services In Boulder

June 12, 2020 · Business Planner · (No comments)

byAlma Abell

Small businesses and start-up organizations rarely have the funding needed to have an on-site 24 hour IT department. This often means that many companies are struggling to do the best they can with what they have and rarely are able to capitalize on the opportunities the technology they own is capable of performing. When problems occur, their decision to save money by fixing the issue themselves often leads to added expenses and even more costly downtime.

The fact is, almost no one is capable of running the IT end of a business except an IT professional. Understanding how to navigate a computer or the Internet does not make a person an expert on how these systems work or how to set up networks, telecom systems or interfaces.

If the words “Server Virtualization” are both identifiable words to you, but seem to make no sense when spoken together, you need assistance from a company that can help you to understand.

But why pay someone a full time salary to manage your IT Services when there are businesses dedicated to providing this service and are available 24-hours a day to help? IT Services in Boulder can help you to make the most out of your business and the technology you have invested in, find solutions that will save you time and money and keep you operating without interruption every day.

They can help with the setup of new systems or maintain the existing equipment and systems you already have in place. Outsourcing may have a bad reputation in some instances, but here it makes it possible for a small company to compete equally with larger businesses and use their savings to help their company grow.

IT Services in Boulder are the best answer for technology related questions. They are perfect for any size company, large or small, regardless of the industry they work in. If you are struggling to maintain the payroll for a full IT team of your own or you are attempting to set up systems you really do not understand, look into outsourcing to see what benefits it holds for you.

An unidentified 28-year-old man has been taken into custody after police in Northern Ireland seized a large amount of cannabis upon the planned police raid of a house in the town of Magherafelt Tuesday. The seizure, which contained 38 kilograms (84 pounds) of cannabis resin, reportedly had an estimated street value of £380,000 (US$612,000 or €474,000).

A later police search of a vehicle also uncovered a large quantity of money. The cannabis is to be examined by forensic investigators.

“This is another brilliant success in the fight against drugs for the Magherafelt area,” said Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson, Magherafelt’s area commander. “This seizure was as a result of information received from the public and I am extremely grateful to the community for their assistance in this investigation.”

What Is A Therapeutic Massage Spa?

June 8, 2020 · Salt Therapy Solutions · (No comments)

All spas are places where people go for relaxation however a therapeutic massage spa takes this service to a much higher plane. In an ordinary spa one can expect grooming more than anything else, it is a place which does hair, manicures, pedicures, facials and body scrubs. The massage therapists in Peabody MA take facials for example and add massage and other treatments that are designed to improve the appearance of the client as well as rejuvenate the body.

Treatments that one can expect in a therapeutic spa will always include massage. Depending on the type of treatment the massage can focus on the feet and the hands while other forms of massage treat the client from head to toe. During a massage in a therapeutic spa one can expect the massage therapists to use different forms of aromatherapy such as oils and candles which are lit during the therapy to induce deeper relaxation. When a person is fully relaxed the massage will be of most benefit.

Most therapeutic spas offer skin treatments, often in the way of facials. The facials are given in a gentle fashion; the objective is to renew the skin without inflicting any damage. The types of scrubs that are offered in high end spas normally use oatmeal and various herbs rather than harsh exfoliates which contain chemicals. The bath may also contain sea salt and herbal components.

Another popular treatment that one expects in a therapeutic spa is a foot scrub. A foot scrub is an ideal way to sooth tired feet and to remove dead skin. The scrub must be mildly abrasive to work properly but it also nourishes the feet by moisturizing dry skin. Although scent is a factor it is not important, as long as the scent is pleasant it is good.

The entire focus of the spa and the massage therapists in Peabody MA which work there is to provide a pleasant experience for the clients. A combination of a good massage which is designed to rid the body of tension, aches and pains as well as cleanse the muscles of toxins along with facials, foot scrubs and in some instance whole body wraps have a single purpose, to enhance the body and soul.

If you are looking for a great spa that employs massage therapists in Peabody MA may we suggest a visit to Massage Envy Spa.

Wikinews interviews Rocky De La Fuente, U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate

Wikinews interviews Rocky De La Fuente, U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate

Businessman Rocky De La Fuente took some time to speak with Wikinews about his campaign for the U.S. Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination.

The 61-year-old De La Fuente resides in San Diego, California, grew up in Tijuana, and owns multiple businesses and properties throughout the world. Since getting his start in the automobile industry, De La Fuente has branched out into the banking and real estate markets. Despite not having held or sought political office previously, he has been involved in politics, serving as the first-ever Hispanic superdelegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

De La Fuente entered the 2016 presidential race last October largely due to his dissatisfaction with Republican front-runner Donald Trump. He argues he is a more accomplished businessman than Trump, and attacks Trump as “a clown,” “a joke,” “dangerous,” and “in the same category as Hitler.” Nevertheless, De La Fuente’s business background begets comparisons with Trump. The Alaskan Midnight Sun blog described him as the Democrats’ “own Donald Trump.”

While receiving only minimal media coverage, he has campaigned actively, and according to the latest Federal Election Commission filing, loaned almost US$ 4 million of his own money to the campaign. He has qualified for 48 primary and caucus ballots, but has not yet obtained any delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Thus far, according to the count at The Green Papers, De La Fuente has received 35,406 votes, or 0.23% of the total votes cast. He leads among the many lesser-known candidates but trails both Senator Bernie Sanders who has received nearly 6.5 million votes and front-runner Hillary Clinton who has just shy of 9 million votes.

With Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn?, De La Fuente discusses his personal background, his positions on political issues, his current campaign for president, and his political future.
