Russian ICBM test launch failed again
October 19, 2022 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Friday, December 18, 2009

A recent Russian test of an ICBM last week was unsuccessful as a result of third stage engine failure. It happened during a test launch of the Bulava missile from ‘Dmitry Donskoi’ nuclear submarine early last Wednesday.

The missile has probably come out of control and exploded, … The peculiar spiral shaped light pattern comes from reflection of the sun in the leaking fuel.

A researcher at the Norwegian Geophysical Observatory, who witnessed the event reported that “[t]he missile has probably come out of control and exploded”. He also noted the “spiral shaped light pattern”, which was associated by some with an Aurora Borealis, or with the trace of an unidentified flying object of some kind before official confirmation from Russia came.

This became a 7th unsuccessful launch out of total 13 since 2003. Earlier faults were blamed on the subcontractors who supplied faulty missile stage separators.

We’ll keep working (on Bulava) despite the recent failed tests … It was impossible to drop the Bulava project or to replace it with something else.

Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology is known for designing Bulava as well as Topol and Topol M, which is a land-based ICBM of similar design mounted on the mobile carrier and already in military service in Russia.

Earlier this year, in July Yury Solomonov resigned from the head of the ITT research and development institute after a failed launch.

Despite this failure, Russian Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky noted that it’s impossible to replace the project with another or to drop it completely as a result of the recent test failures. Next launch is scheduled for January.

In recent months, a number of organisations have announced new business process outsourcing contracts, new set up of captive shared service models, and acquisitions of either BPO firms or shared service centres. According to latest Everest research, BPO activity has increased by 15% in transaction volumes, and 33% in contract values. The captive market announced 38 new set ups, and M&A activity increased with 12 acquisitions (compared to 9 in the previous quarter).

This signals the turnaround is gaining momentum in shared services and outsourcing, and in a disparate market the competition is as intense as ever before. In particular, the banking and financial services is particularly active with a 41% increase in transactions (largely in banking). This coincides with the iGate CEO Phaneesh Murthy stating that while banking customers plan to increase offshoring, a lot of them will set up their own captive back office centres instead of working with a BPO provider.

Emaar Properties claims Burj Dubai as world’s tallest building
October 11, 2022 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Sunday, July 22, 2007

United Arab Emirates (UAE) developer Emaar Properties has claimed that their Burj Dubai commercial and residential tower, currently under construction, has become the world’s tallest building, reaching a height of 512.1 metres (or 1,680 feet) and 141 storeys.

The current official record holder, Taipei 101 of Taiwan, has a height of 508 metres and 101 storeys, and will retain the “tallest building” title for some time to come. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat sets the criteria for achieving height records for buildings, and will not evaluate the Burj Dubai until construction is complete in late 2008. Although final height details have been kept secret by the developer, the Burj Dubai is expected to reach nearly 700 metres in height, with approximately 160 storeys.

The current record holder for the world’s tallest free-standing structure is the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. It has a height of 553 metres. The Burj Dubai, therefore, would claim both records when it is completed.

Once the Burj Dubai is completed, it will have required 330,000 cubic metres of concrete, 39,000 tonnes of steel and 142,000 square metres of glass, according to Emaar Properties. The building will have 56 lifts (elevators) that can move at a rate of speed of 1.75 to 10 metres per second.

Dubai is undergoing a construction boom currently with the Burj Dubai as the planned centrepiece of a $US20 billion project, which will eventually realize some 30,000 apartments and boast the world’s largest shopping mall.

There have been criticisms of the working conditions for construction workers in the UAE. A majority of the estimated 500,000 construction workers in the UAE are foreign workers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In a 2006 report on the UAE’s treatment of migrant workers, entitled Building Towers, Cheating Workers, Human Rights Watch documented abuses in UAE such as, “extremely low wages, several years of indebtedness to recruitment agencies for fees that UAE law says only employers should pay, the withholding of employees’ passports, and hazardous working conditions that result in apparently high rates of death and injury.”

In October of last year, Human Rights Watch delivered specific recommendations to the UAE government for improvement of working conditions. The UAE government acted swiftly on the report and put in place several improvements, which were applauded by Human Rights Watch.

However, the salaries of migrant construction workers remain in the range from $106 to $250 per month, while the national average wage is over $2,000 per month. Trade unions remain illegal in the UAE.

UK Supreme Court will not hear Julian Assange’s appeal against extradition
October 11, 2022 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom announced it will not rule on Julian Assange’s appeal on his extradition to the United States.

Stating the application “didn’t raise an arguable point of law,” the court left in place a ruling from December that Assange is eligible for extradition after assurances from the US that he would be treated humanely.

Assange, an Australian, is the founder of the WikiLeaks website which published classified US military documents obtained by Chelsea Manning. He faces criminal charges in the US for unlawfully helping Manning obtain the documents. Assange’s defense has been he was only acting in the role of a journalist.

Since 2019, Assange has been held at Belmarsh Prison in London. Prior to that, he stayed seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid being extradited to Sweden on sexual assault charges which were eventually dropped.

The extradition is now in the hands of UK Home Secretary Priti Patel, and Assange’s legal team has four weeks to submit objections.

Five Best Hiding Places For Hidden Nanny Cameras

October 7, 2022 · Law Firm · (No comments)

By Nahshon Roberts

Hidden nanny cameras are no super spy secrets. Everybody knows about these gadgets, including the target, the nannies. The challenge lies in hiding these cleverly. Want to try these tips?

How to Catch Ogre Nannies

Like your boss, you want your nanny to be productive and not waste time snoozing or using the phone for personal calls. In your case, you also want to be sure that your nanny is not shaking the baby or kicking the kids around. But nannies know about the hidden nanny cameras and the ogre-types know where to kick, shake, rattle, and roll.

It is a nuisance that ads for nanny cams also advise where you can hide the tiny gadgets. But you can pull a fast one by being more creative with your hidden nanny cameras. Yes, it’s true that it’s against the law not to inform that nanny that you have electronic spies in the house. But if you are not living in California or Massachusetts, you do not have to give the nanny a nanny cam map.

Hiding the Nanny Cameras

So where else can you can you hide the nanny cameras? Every conceivable place has been thought up by great spy minds. Even helpless furry teddy has been enlisted to keep an eye on the nanny! Here are some novel ideas where to keep your nanny cameras hidden:

* Obviously, the nanny knows there are hidden nanny cameras in the nursery. She will behave there, even without a spy camera. But it is better to be sure to hide one there. Have you thought about placing a framed picture near the head side of the crib or the baby’s bed? You can see the nanny’s face if she is smiling or scaring the baby with an ugly scowl.

* The kitchen is another popular area, but where can you set up the hidden nanny cameras without being redundant? Think about a wide sweep and a close up to check how the nanny prepares food for the children. Hide the camera in a mirror lamp on the counter where food is usually prepared, and on the ceiling install a smoke detector clone, which is in reality, a camera.

* The bath is an accident-prone area. Install the camera on the wall where a view of every move can be captured. Do not place the camera where movements can be obscured. Your nanny may not be able to explain the bump on your baby’s head, but the camera will tell all.

* Use the pinhole camera in the living room. This is where nannies spend their time watching TV. Check if she is watching adult movies instead of letting the kids watch their favorite cartoon show. Children are impressionable and pick up what they see and hear. Be alert to this.

* If you have watched YouTube videos showing nanny brutality, most of them show the nanny’s back and the baby cannot be seen. You could not see if the nanny was pinching or squeezing the baby. Avoid this oversight, place hidden nanny cameras on both walls.

If you’ve caught the nanny being abusive on tape, fire her on the spot. Don’t wait until more harm will happen to the children.

Iraqis say U.S. bombing killed 39 civilians

Iraqis say U.S. bombing killed 39 civilians

American helicopters and warplanes bombed 2 villages near Ramadi, Iraq on Sunday. The U.S. military said nearly 70 suspected insurgents were killed, while local witnesses said that at least 39 civilians, including 18 children, were also lost to the attack.

A Ramadi resident, Ahmed Fouad, said that just after 7 p.m. Sunday, U.S. warplanes killed 18 children, including Fouad’s son and 8-year-old daughter. “She was killed with her brother. Her mother had a stroke out of shock.” Fouad said.

Family members of victims gathered at a Ramadi General Hospital where refrigeration space for the dead bodies had been exhausted. In the garden the bodies of a woman and three children lay as relatives sifted through remains.

“[They] were not terrorists…they were only a bunch of civilians whose curiosity prompted them to gather around a destroyed Humvee,” said Dr. Dhiya Fahdawi in reference to the dead and wounded.

The U.S. military neither confirmed nor denied that civilians were killed and issued a statement saying; “All the attacks were timed and executed in a manner to reduce the possibility of collateral damage.”

Fire at historic Welsh ex-hotel Bontddu Hall kills one

Fire at historic Welsh ex-hotel Bontddu Hall kills one
October 2, 2022 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Saturday, June 6, 2020

A fire broke out yesterday at Bontddu Hall near Dolgellau in Gwynedd, Wales. The historic mansion is a former hotel with high-profile guests. A rescued woman died at the scene.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the building, located off the A496 overlooking the Mawddach Estuary in Snowdonia National Park, at 09:09am local time. Resources sent included appliances from Dolgellau, Harlech, Barmouth, Bala, and Blaenau Ffestiniog according to a fire service statement, as well as an aerial ladder platform, high volume pump, and the service’s incident command unit.

Police, the ambulance service, and an air ambulance also attended. Photos and video from the blaze showed thick smoke with flames visible at windows. The fire service indicated an investigation working alongside North Wales Police was underway. Bontddu Hall recently underwent building work and scaffolding was still erected at the time of the fire.

Bontddu Hall dates to 1873, originally a 20-room mansion, and was a country retreat for the Mayor of Birmingham called Bryn Tirion before becoming a hotel. Guests include regular visitor ex-UK Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and actor Richard Burton who stayed at Bontddu Hall while filming his 1949 movie debut The Last Days of Dolwyn.

The hotel closed around fifteen years ago, with local press reporting in 2004 then-new owner Tong Yung-soo, who had purchased Bontddu Hall in 2001, and his wife applied to make it a residence once more. The move was met with what WalesOnline called “fury” from local tourism chiefs. The then-manager of Barmouth Publicity and Director of Mid Wales Tourism Partnership, David Clay, called it “a retrograde step” and said “[a]n area like this cannot afford to lose such a quality hotel.”

The Tongs indicated issues staffing the hotel, something Clay recognised, and Mr Tong had said they intended to “restore the hall to its former glory.” Following the hotel’s closure it has remained a private home.

Edmund White on writing, incest, life and Larry Kramer

Edmund White on writing, incest, life and Larry Kramer
September 30, 2022 · Uncategorized · (No comments)

Thursday, November 8, 2007

What you are about to read is an American life as lived by renowned author Edmund White. His life has been a crossroads, the fulcrum of high-brow Classicism and low-brow Brett Easton Ellisism. It is not for the faint. He has been the toast of the literary elite in New York, London and Paris, befriending artistic luminaries such as Salman Rushdie and Sir Ian McKellen while writing about a family where he was jealous his sister was having sex with his father as he fought off his mother’s amorous pursuit.

The fact is, Edmund White exists. His life exists. To the casual reader, they may find it disquieting that someone like his father existed in 1950’s America and that White’s work is the progeny of his intimate effort to understand his own experience.

Wikinews reporter David Shankbone understood that an interview with Edmund White, who is professor of creative writing at Princeton University, who wrote the seminal biography of Jean Genet, and who no longer can keep track of how many sex partners he has encountered, meant nothing would be off limits. Nothing was. Late in the interview they were joined by his partner Michael Caroll, who discussed White’s enduring feud with influential writer and activist Larry Kramer.

Finding Your Ideal Property In Spain

September 29, 2022 · Quantity Surveyors · (No comments)

Submitted by: IPRWire Staff Writer

The international real estate market is certainly one that is booming in the last few years and is likely to continue in that way in the near future. If you are looking for property in Spain, you have probably come across an overabundance of websites and agencies that offer attractive properties in the regions around southern Europe. Whether or not you have started looking through all of these different options, it becomes clear pretty quickly that there are so many options that make it difficult to spend enough time to research.

There are a few important steps that you can take in order to start narrowing down the options before you have even begun your search for your dream home. The first step is to think broadly about location. Where exactly do you want to be? For example, if you have visited France as a child and have your heart set on returning there, limit your search to that country. Likewise, if your family is Italian and you have always dreamed of returning there and finding your roots so to speak, then you should limit yourself to Italy. The same goes for any broad location.

If you have decided that your dream home is a property in Spain, you have made the first step toward finding that dream home. However, it is also important to think about the specific location where you would like to find your new home. Not only are the Spanish countryside wide and the Spanish coastlines long, there are many different types of geographic environments available throughout the country. Perhaps you want to be located in a beautiful city, or perhaps you want to be located in a village not too far from a city. When it comes to one s dream home, each person s vision is a little different from the next person s vision.

Once you have chosen a geographic type of region, you need to do some research about where that type of region can be found. For example, if you would like your property in Spain to be near the ocean, you should do some research or you could even travel to the location to find out whether Spain s Atlantic or Mediterranean coast is more appealing to you. Perhaps while you are doing research, you will decide that the coastlines are too densely populated and decide that the mountainous region on the French border is more your style. Again, everyone s tastes vary.

Many people are looking for a second or retirement home. If the Spanish countryside is where you ultimately would like to find your dream retirement home, one good website to try is Rest Assured Properties. Specializing in luxurious homes in rural Spanish settings, the company makes the process of international home purchase a worry-free one. Visit
