My first car? an Austin Big Seven Six-Lite Saloon bought for £3 back in 1964.Then aged 16 I bought it from an old boy at work who wanted £4 for it,"a quid a wheel boy" he said but even then I had to have a deal!
I talked my dad into driving it the mile or so home,he wasn't at all impressed as the steering was virtually siezed,the brakes were non existent & not much else worked either!
When he'd finally calmed down he agreed to help with its restoration,which we did together over the following 12 months.
Although on a very tight appentices wages budget it was a full body off job & taught me a lot about cars,impulse purchases & my dad.
When finished it was painted with Dulux Brunswick Green,by brush of course.
Since then I've owned countless cars from Edwardian Humbers to new,Goggomobils to Rolls-Royce but I'll always remember that Big 7.
